A Bike Touring Adventure From Freiburg to Capetown

Embarking on a bike touring adventure that spans continents, Wiebke Lühmann’s bicycle adventure is a testament to both her endurance and her love for human powered travel. In total she will be covering over 20,000 kilometers through the most diverse and challenging terrain.

Wiebke’s story begins with her first long-distance adventure in 2019, cycling from Bogota to Buenos Aires. This 7,000-kilometer journey through South America’s varied landscapes was just the beginning. In 2022, she set out from Hamburg to the North Cape in Norway, documenting the 3,500-kilometer journey in a film titled “On Her Own,” which offers an authentic glimpse into the life of a solo cyclist on the road.

Now, Wiebke finds herself in the midst of her longest tour yet, a 15-month odyssey that will take her all the way through Africa, tracking along the West African Coast. I recorded this episode with her while she was in Conakry, Guinea, and she shares insights into the challenges she has faced so far and what is ahead with the rainy season looming large on the horizon
