Episode 134: Ben Boxer
Wheels and Whales – a 7,500km Bike Adventure for Marine Conservation

What does it mean to combine adventure with purpose? In this episode of Seek Travel Ride, I sat down with bikepacker and conservationist Ben Boxer to find out all about his Wheels and Whales project. Ben schemed this idea up which involved bikepacking 7,500 km all while keeping it local to his home. The idea was to have an adventure which would match the distance of his flight to Vancouver where he had planned to take a summer holiday.
Ben shares how his love of cycling became a tool for exploring local wild places, all the while raising awareness of marine conservation, and creating a deeper connection with the natural world. From spotting killer whales off the UK coas, enjoying an unexpected light show put on by the spectacular Northern Lights, to spotting a small family of Puffins who call the Dorset Coastline home, his adventure connected him to nature and helped solidify the idea that adventures taken even in such close proximity to home can be as equally energising as those taken to the other side of the world.

Since his Wheels adn Whales project Ben has continued combining adventure with conservationism and is now leading community beach clean-ups. In 2025, he started his Movements adn Nature project, adding paddleboarding, and hiking into the adventure element along with bikepacking. These personal projects taken at a local level are having a tangible impact and show that we as individuals can make a difference.

If you’re passionate about bikepacking, sustainability, or adventure travel, this episode will inspire you to consider how your own adventures can create a positive impact.
