2023 Road Cycling Tours in France

If you are planning a French road cycling holiday in 2023 and looking to join one of the many tour companies, this page is for you. We have done some of the hard work for you by researching the web to see who is providing tours to save you some time.

You will find a list of companies in our table below. Clicking on the name will take you to the company website and full details of what they have to offer. These companies all focus primarily on road cycling holidays rather than leisure style holidays for the more casual rider. We have also noted those companies that offer trips to watch the Tour de France.

When considering what type of company is right for you some of the things you may think about include:

Group size – are you happier in a smaller or larger group?

Length of tour – are you looking for a shorter tour to get accustomed to riding in France or something for your entire trip?

Inclusions – check what is included in the cost of the tour. While something may appear more expensive on the surface when you look at what it includes it may compare favorably to cheaper options. Different lengths of tours for the same company can have different inclusions.

The riding – all of the companies give details of the amount of riding and climbing you can expect to do on a daily basis. Check this to make sure you will be capable of completing the riding being offered. There are always options to shorten rides should the need arise but check this and make sure you are comfortable.

Base or point-to-point – Tours will either be in the one hotel for the whole (or majority) of the time or move from the hotel every day or every couple of days. What type of holiday would you prefer? Being in one place means getting to know a particular region and its riding very well and not having to pack and move frequently. Point-to-point means seeing more of the country and riding in more locations but a little more packing and repacking is needed. Again this comes down to personal preference and what you are looking for in a holiday.

Professional races – The Tour de France is the largest annual sporting event in the world and being roadside for a stage or following the race in its entirety is something well worth doing. Of the companies listed below Custom Getaways, Sports Tours International and Thompson Bike tours are official premium or VIP partners of the Tour de France, while Discover France, mummu cycling, and Trek Travel are all official partners. This will give you a range of benefits not available to other providers such as entry to VIP zones and village access.

Bike hire – if you don’t want to bring your own bike check to see if bike hire is possible for the trip you wish to do. Some companies have their own fleets of bikes and may include bike hire in the price while others will assist you in arranging bike hire with a local company.

Non-cycling partners – if you are a very keen cyclist but your partner is not then check to see what different companies offer. Most companies will cater to non-cycling partners and some will arrange specific activities while others are out riding.

Single supplements – prices are quoted on a twin-share basis. If you are planning on traveling by yourself expect to pay an additional amount.

Customized tours – if you don’t see a tour itinerary that meets your needs contact any of the companies listed and they may be able to assist with a fully customized trip. Some of the listed companies specialize in customized trips.
